LIMBE – Activities marking this year’s edition ended with a roundtable debate at the Limbe City Council Hall, Down Beach.

The celebration began with a Sports Walk on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in front of the SDO’s Office in Limbe. Other activities included football tournaments bringing together four of the seven Councils in Fako Division: Tiko, Limbe I, Muyuka, and Limbe City Council.

The celebration was held under the theme:

“New CRVS Decade (2027-2036): Consolidating APAI-CRVS Achievements and Securing the Future of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Africa through Integration, Décentralisation and Digitalisation.”

The event featured four presentations followed by a Questions and Answers session.

The celebration was presided over by Mr. Enoh Egbe Albert, representative of the SDO for Fako, in the presence of Mr. Julius Naseri, Divisional Delegate of Décentralisation and Local Development for Fako, Tiko Council Mayor HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III, representatives of the Mayors of Limbe City and Limbe I, and a cross-section of workers.

Of the seven Councils in Fako Division, Tiko Council workers actively took part in the celebration through their large turnout and by asking insightful questions on the topics presented.

During the intervention session, Tiko Council Mayor HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III decried the fact that Councils have been left to fend for themselves. He noted that most powers transferred to them, especially in the collection of revenues, are now controlled by Taxation, making it difficult for Councils to function properly and pay the salaries of their workers.

Mayor Mesoso III called on the Divisional Delegate of Décentralisation and Local Development for Fako to convey their concerns to the relevant authorities, noting that the system has become over-centralized.

He also appealed to officials of CAMWATER to collaborate with Councils, especially on issues of encroachment around water catchment areas.
